Jenny Gill’s “The House Sessions” — EP Review

Jenny Gill has been singing since she was a little girl so the release of her EP “The House Sessions,” out September 8th, is particularly sweet for the singer/songwriter. This project features 6 songs, 5 of which are written or co-written by Jenny and recorded in her dad’s home studio affectionately called “The House.” While Jenny has been on plenty of stages singing background vocals for her dad, Vince Gill, and her step mom Amy Grant, this EP is finally her turn to take the bull by the horns and jump into center stage. Fans that have seen her sing live have been clamoring for this release and it is no wonder why. Jenny isn’t just the daughter of a famous singer, she is a talent in her own right and this EP BEYOND demonstrates that. ... read more!

“A Few More Cowboys” From Toby Keith Hits The Mark – CMM Review

It has been a little touch and go with Toby Keith lately, some of his music is still really good, but some of it was not quite up to par. He’s never been one to stay right down the middle, he either totally hits it or completely misses the mark with his music. The last few years has found Keith struggling, and flip flopping back and forth between his usual sound and trying to keep up with the current mainstream sounds. His last album, 35 MPH Town, was released almost a year ago now, and found Keith, for the most part, returning to his usual sound. The record produced 3 singles, 2 of which made the Top 50, and also produced some of his best songs in a while. Both “Beautiful Stranger” and “35 MPH Town” are songs that can definitely stand next to other Keith standards. ... read more!

I hadn’t heard anything about the trio until stumbling across their debut EP on iTunes’ new releases list, but I’m glad I found them! After listening to the EP and falling in love with it, I did a little research on the trio. So here’s the scoop: Ashlee Hewitt, Whitney Duncan, and Shelby McLeod make up Post Monroe. Hillary Scott’s “Thy Will” — Single Review

Earlier last year (2015) country music group, Lady Antebellum announced that they would be taking a much needed break to rejuvenate and recharge. Shortly after that announcement, group member, Charles Kelley revealed that he was working on a solo project. Kelley released his solo debut album, The Driver, earlier this year and received a great deal of praise from critics and peers alike. In November of 2015, Hillary Scott announced that she was also planning a solo project, a gospel album. Since then, we haven’t heard much or really anything about that project. 3 days ago, on April 23rd, Hillary posted a handwritten letter to fans on her Instagram and Twitter accounts announcing the first single from the record and giving more details on the record itself. ... read more!

Chris Stapleton’s “Parachute” — Single Review

Chris Stapleton skyrocketed to fame after his huge CMA night in 2015. His smash performance with Justin Timberlake coupled with his surprise wins pushed Stapleton to the forefront of everyone’s minds. Stapleton’s debut solo album, Traveller, was one of 2015’s most lauded albums, and continues to hold a place on the charts and be talked about. As far as the majority of mainstream music fans are concerned, Stapleton was an overnight star that just came out of nowhere, but to those of us who are attuned to the whole genre, shadows and all, we knew different. Stapleton has been in the music business for over a decade, both as a songwriter and an artist. ... read more!
