I applaud singer songwriters who step out and take their vocals from behind the scenes to the forefront. It can be daring, but Justin Adams has transitioned quite nicely. On the heels of his first major cut as a songwriter with Granger Smith’s new single “You’re In It”, he released the ‘soundtrack for your Summer’ with his own single, ‘How It Rolls.’ This newest release comes off his sophomore EP, ‘Horizon.’
The eight-song EP features tracks written by Eric Arjes (Tim McGraw, Ryan Hurd, Thompson Square) and Brad Tursi of Old Dominion (Luke Bryan, Kenny Chesney), and produced by ACM Award-Winning guitarist Derek Wells, giving Justin the additional stepping stones he needed. ‘Horizon’ follows the release of Justin’s 2013 self-titled EP which debuted at No. 4 on the iTunes Country Album chart, No. 36 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart and No. 59 on the Billboard Country Albums chart.
The Bixby, OK native brings forth his dynamic strong vocals that capture your attention and makes you aware of the details and efforts he puts in to his vocals. The song selections on ‘Horizon’ proves why he regularly writes with Casey Beatherd (Kenny Chesney), Mark Nesler (Tim McGraw), Tony Martin (Keith Urban) and Rivers Rutherford (Brad Paisley).
Justin is signed to Universal Music Publishing and has shared the stage with nationally touring acts Gary Allan, Josh Turner, Trace Adkins, Joe Nichols, Jon Pardi, Dustin Lynch, Dan and Shay, Eli Young Band, Clay Walker, Craig Morgan, David Nail, Chase Rice, Easton Corbin, Tracy Lawrence and Eric Paslay.
I hear many different artists styles and it may take a song or two to have me stand up and pay attention. This was not the case with Justin. Although he was brought to my attention with this sophomore EP, it gave me the opportunity to go back and find out what brought him here. “This Cowboy’s Gonna Ride” off his freshman EP is a solid piece of artistry.
Even though Justin’s website is under construction for a new look, please at least stop by to save the link to your favorites and keep up with his career. ‘Horizon’ is available on iTunes, Spotify and all digital outlets. Support singer songwriters, they have earned their way and deserve that moment to step up to the big playing field and hit a few homeruns.
