Our Throwback Thursday song today is Don Williams’ “Lord, I Hope This Day is Good,” which was written by Dave Hanner. The song was released in November 1981 as the third single from Don’s album “Especially for You,” and his twelfth No. 1 song on the country chart.
In 2016, Country Music Hall of Famer Don Williams, known as the “Gentle Giant” with his relaxed songs and 6-foot-1-inch frame, announced his retirement after six decades of making music and entertaining crowds. He said that “It’s time to hang my hat up and enjoy some quiet time at home. I’m so thankful for my fans, my friends and my family for their everlasting love and support.”
On May 26th, “Gentle Giants: The Songs of Don Williams” will be released, one day before Williams’ 78th birthday. Most of the album’s proceeds will be donated to MusiCares. The 11 track album includes artists like Lady Antebellum, Dierks Bentley, Trisha Yearwood, Brandy Clark and Garth Brooks.
Love won’t live here next week unless you join us for our next Throwback Thursday song.
