First things first, I have to admit, I’ve never been a RaeLynn fan. I remember watching her on The Voice, and thought she was cute and kind of like a watered down, baby Miranda Lambert. She seems like a sweet young woman with a fun personality, but as far as her vocal abilities go, I’ve never been impressed. I’ve felt that she needed more coaching and to achieve more control over her vocals. I’ve always said that she has a unique voice, one that could really be something will more practice and precision. I’m also not a huge fan of her sound, but then again, that’s probably more Big Machine pushing the current trends than her. All that said, I will give credit where credit is due. RaeLynn seems to be coming into her own and learning how to properly use her voice, at least that’s what I hear when I listen to her new single, “Insecure”.
“Insecure” carries a beautiful message that all girls should take to heart. The song finds RaeLynn talking to herself, reminding herself that no one’s worth getting insecure over. She uses the song to remind herself over and over that just because another girl is interested in, and even flat out flirting with, her man, that doesn’t mean he’s interested. It’s a reminder that we should try to be more comfortable and secure in our relationships, because really, what’s the point in being in a relationship with someone if you constantly feel insecure with them and worry that they’ll leave you?
The song opens with RaeLynn setting the scene, catching a girl flirting from a distance with her man, trying to catch his attention, but Rae reminds herself to not get insecure, that he isn’t into her and that though Rae “might think she’s a 10” in reality “she don’t count to him, cuz girl he’s busy getting dizzy all love round you”. RaeLynn realizes that she’s got a good man, one that has no interest in anyone else, and therefore she has no reason to be insecure, he loves her.
The single features a mainstream sound, but it’s incredibly infectious and will draw you in immediately. Go ahead and have a listen!
