Easton Corbin Brings a True Country Sound to CA- Concert Review

It seems like country radio is all over the road these days. It seems like half the time it’s some rapped up, hip-hoppy thing that I really don’t like to listen to and can’t really relate to. But any time I hear that Easton Corbin is coming up, I know it’s about to get real good and real country. Since his debut single “I’m A Little More Country Than That” was released in 2009, he’s been rollin’ out one great song after another. His latest cd is titled “About To Get Real” and was released on June 30th.

Easton’s voice and musical style are often compared to George Strait – not a bad guy to be compared to! This new cd only helps to strengthen those comparisons. “Baby Be My Love Song” was a big hit and do I think the newest single will be another? “Yup!” “Are You With Me” and “Just Add Water” are my 2 favorites, but every song on the cd is just a good, solid, great sounding country song.

We had the chance to see Easton in concert recently at the Grove of Anaheim in California. I love all of his songs and was excited to see him for the first time, but kind of expected a show like George where he just stands there and sings. Easton surprised me by having so much energy and putting on an amazingly entertaining show. He sang most of his hits and told some great stories. He also did some great covers of Kenny Chesney’s “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy,” Alan Jackson’s “Where I Come From,” Joe Diffie’s “John Deer Green,” Brooks and Dunn’s “Brand New Man,” and Alabama’s “…Fiddle In The Band.”

We were lucky enough to have a meet & greet with Easton after the show. As great as an entertainer as he was, he was just as nice of a guy.
I can’t help but think that a lot of the stuff on country radio really doesn’t seem much like a song at all these days. Easton Corbin, however, is a talented artist who makes me hopeful that real, good country music has a chance. So, check out his new cd and if you ever have a chance to see him in concert, take it!

I also wanted to mention the opener, Hayley Orrantia. You may know her from playing Erica on “The Goldbergs.” She had an amazing voice and really put on a great show. We look forward to hearing more from her!
