After having the chance to talk to Jason Michael Carroll on the phone a few weeks ago, it was great to get to talk to him in person and see him put on a great concert. He was at the SlideBar in Fullerton, California. There were probably about 100 people there, but Jason put on a show like there were thousands.
It was great to see just him and his guitar player in a laid back environment where he could talk to the crowd, take requests and even accept a few beers and shots from them! The acoustic show was a great showcase of his amazing voice. He did most of his hits and a lot of songs off his new cd “What Color Is Your Sky,” including my request for “Here With Me.” I can’t say enough how much I love that song! Hearing it live made it sound even better. He also did some amazing covers, including John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” Cutting Crew’s “(I Just) Died In Your Arms,” 3 Doors Down’s “Here Without You,” and Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours.”
The 2 hour show that Jason put on was really one of the best concerts I’ve seen. A great mix of talking, great stories and fun and one of the best voices around. It does make me wonder why in the world he is not on the charts more and filling bigger venues?! God only knows, because he is as talented as anyone in country music these days – a lot more talented than some of the people, really! But enough of my soapbox. All I can say is that I hope people get to hear this new cd “What Color Is Your Sky” and if you get the chance to see him live, take it!
