April Kry — CMM’s February “Artist on the Rise”

Country up and comer April Kry loves music and the way it can touch the lives of others. At the early age of 13 she had the unique experience to perform at an event alongside Jermaine Jackson and she then knew her life was meant to make music.

She plays the guitar, writes music and has a fresh voice that is all her own. Her single “Fireflies” is showing country fans just what she is all about. We are very excited that April is our February “Artist on the Rise.” Take a look at the interview below to get to know more April and her music.

CMM:

How long have you been singing and when did you know music was what you wanted to do with your life?

April Kry:

I’ve been singing since I was around 5 or 6 years old. I always kind of knew that I wanted to pursue music as a career because it was just something I grew up doing, but It was around 13 when I realized I couldn’t see myself doing anything other than music!

CMM:

Who are some of your musical influences and do you feel like fans can hear those influences in your music?

April Kry:

I have a pretty big range of influences and I think people can definitely hear that in my music and voice! Some of them are Martina McBride, Alison Krauss, John Mayer, Keith Urban, Lee Ann Womack and Stevie Wonder.

CMM:

When did you start playing guitar and how did that help spark your love for song writing?

April Kry:

I actually picked up the guitar around 14 or 15 and started writing when I learned my first few chords. It was a whole new world for me. I was now able to express myself through songwriting, which was so amazing to be able to do.

CMM:

Your single “Fireflies” is probably a very relatable song to many fans. What did you think the first time you heard it?

April Kry:

When I first hear “Fireflies” It really brought me back to the first time I fell in love and made me think about all those memories and feelings. It really paints a beautiful picture in the mind of the listener about the “first love” experience.

CMM:

You have been quoted as saying that lyrics are the heart of the song…what are a few songs you love simply because of the lyrics?

April Kry:

They truly are the heart of a song for me. A few of my absolute favorite songs because of the lyrics are-Kacey Musgraves “Merry Go ‘Round,” John Mayer “Stop This Train” and Lee Ann Womack “I Hope You Dance.”

CMM:

Besides promoting “Fireflies” what are you currently working on?

April Kry:

I have a lot of things in the works for 2015! I have an EP coming out hopefully sometime this spring and I’m looking to do a radio tour soon as well.

CMM:

Will you be writing some of your upcoming music?

April Kry:

Definitely. You’ll hear one or two of my originals on the EP hopefully!

CMM:

Looking ahead, what are some of your major goals as a country music artist?

April Kry:

I’d absolutely love to play at the Opry. What an honor that would be. Overall, I just want to touch people with my music in a positive way!

CMM:

What would you want fans to know most about you and your music?

April Kry:

It’s music that tells a story. I’m truly just trying to bring people back to a memory, or feeling they had that connects them with the song. Music speaks in so many ways. I hope my music will be an inspiration to listeners just as music has inspired me in such a huge way!
