Jamie O’Neal has a voice that was clearly meant to sing country music. Fans know her best for hits like “Trying to Find Atlantis,” and “There is No Arizona,” but on her latest endeavor she’s covering some of country music’s classics. Her first new studio album in five years, appropriately titled “Eternal,” finds Jamie giving country music listeners a trip down memory lane to visit the roots of the music we all love.
Jamie O’Neal has music in her blood. She grew up singing with her family and has had a mic in her hand since she was just a little girl. The songs she covers on “Eternal” mean something to her and it clearly shows in her emotion and delivery of each song. Produced by Jamie and her engineer/musician husband Rodney Good, “Eternal” includes 11 tracks of solid country music. This album is potentially introducing these iconic songs to a whole new audience and that alone makes it not only special, but also important.
“Eternal” does a superb job of mixing great country classics with Jamie’s fresh perspective. The album kicks off with “Born to Run,” originally done by Emmylou Harris, and immediately you realize you are in for a great listening experience. Other tracks include “The Sweetest Thing” (Juice Newton), “I’ve Done Enough Dying Today” (The Gatlin Brothers), and the George Jones and Tammy Wynette classic duet, “Golden Ring,” which features Jamie singing along with Andy Griggs. All of the songs feature a traditional sound and remind you that Jamie has one of the greatest female voices in country music today.
While the album is filled to the brim with fantastic songs, killer vocals and brilliant instrumentation there are two songs that literally will stop you in your tracks. If you truly love country music you won’t want to miss Jamie’s version of the iconic Patsy Cline hit “Leavin’ on Your Mind” and Kris Kristofferson’s “Help Me Make it Through the Night.” Listening to these songs not only induced goose bumps, but also made me fall even further in love with country music. You can tell Jamie poured her heart and soul into this album reminding us that a good song NEVER goes out of style.
There is also one original song on the album called “Wide Awake.” It is a song about snoring! Jamie wrote the song with her dad, Jimmy Murphy, and it has been a fan favorite at shows so she decided to add it to the album. She says, “It’s an ode to all women who have to sleep beside a snoring moose every night.” The song is a lot of fun and probably quite relatable to many people!
“Eternal” is one of those albums that every country music fan should add to their collection. It is country music at it’s best. The songs are timeless, Jamie’s voice is brilliant and it will just make your country lovin’ ears happy!
“Eternal” is available MAY 27th so be sure to check it out! For more info on Jamie O’Neal visit www.jamieoneal.com
