Carissa Leigh Releases “The Blackbird EP” — Review

Country newcomer Carissa Leigh first captured country fans’ attention with her single, “Bad Boy.” The fun and feisty song with a bit of a rockin’ edge, shows off Carissa’s personality and introduced listeners to her dynamic voice. Now Carissa has just put out “The Blackbird EP” featuring four tracks all co-written by the singer herself along with well-known writers such as Clay Mills and country singer JT Hodges.

The EP is a great collection of songs mixing in upbeat boot tapping tunes with slowed down ballads. It kicks off with “Bad Boy,” and then goes into the more emotional “Can’t Come Back From That.” The song is about a broken relationship and Carissa’s voice really shines as she easily conveys the emotion of the song. “Man Enough” throws a bit of attitude into the mix and “Losing You” once again finds Carissa showing a bit more vulnerability.

The EP is a great introduction and representation as to who Carissa is as an artist. By listening you can get the feel of her musical and songwriting style. I look forward to seeing what Carissa will do next as she continues to hone her craft as an artist. If you are looking for a fresh face in country music give Carissa Leigh’s “The Blackbird EP” a listen available now on iTunes. You can find more info on Carissa Leigh at
