Rising star singer-songwriter-entertainer Robby Johnson continues to rocket upwards. As praise continues to roll in and a promo tour on the books in the coming weeks, the “South Of Me” artist is set to perform on the Late Show With David Letterman on June 23.
With the momentum of the eye-catching viral video for “South Of Me,” Johnson is on a path to a rare independent country music success story. For nearly three months, the video dominated on CMT Pure’s weekly 12-Pack countdown; topping the fan-voted chart seven times. Clocking in more than 2.7 million views since its release a few months ago, the video has the perfect scenic backdrop being filmed on the sandy beaches of Jamaica and directed by Ryan Smith, who is known for his bold photographic style and has helmed more than 100 music videos with talent ranging from Jason Alden to Eminem and Gavin Degraw.
Prior to the Letterman appearance, Robby will talk with other media outlets including national magazine Country Weekly, nationally syndicated radio show Crook & Chase, popular music sites Roughstock, Nashville Country Club, and Country Music Matters, with more to come.
Demand pours over to country radio with the single charting in the Top 30 on Music Row’s Country Breakout Chart. In the coming months, Johnson will give thanks for the radio support personally and in-person, as well as to promote the forthcoming album, as he sets out to visit stations across the U.S.
Some of Nashville’s most accomplished music creators have also come together to help craft Johnson’s upcoming debut album. Celebrated musician and producer Jimmy Nichols (Elton John, Faith Hill) and Grammy-winner Frank Myers (“I Swear,” “I’m Already There,” “Tomorrow”) produced the project. Myers co-wrote the single with A-list songwriter Anthony Smith and Johnson. And the video was directed by Ryan Smith (“My Kind Of Party”). But even with big names attached, Robby Johnson is the driving force behind the music.
The Nashville based singer-songwriter also co-wrote five of the 10 songs that will appear on his upcoming album, including “Feel Good Song,” “I Need My Honey” and, of course, “South Of Me.”
Keep an eye out for our interview with Robby Johnson coming next week!
